Dennis joined the VFW in 1973 at Post 753 in Minot, N.D., later transferring to VFW Post 1481 in Ogden, Utah, where he maintains his Gold Legacy Life membership.  He served in elected and appointed positions at the Post, District and Department levels, culminating with his election as Department Commander in 2005, in which he earned the distinction of All-American. He just completed his 8^th and final year and as the Utah Member of the VFW National Council of Administration and has been the State Adjutant-Quartermaster since 2012.

He is the current Chairman of the VFW Western Conference, having served as Vice Chairman last year. He was the chairman of the  planning committee for the 2023 VFW Western Conference held in Salt Lake City.  He has served on six VFW National Committees. 

He is a Certified Public Accountant has been a member of the American Institute of CPAs since 1984. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 2009, as a Senior Manager.

He earned my eligibility for the Veterans of Foreign Wars for his service aboard the USS Newport News (CA-148) off the coast of Vietnam in 1972.  His decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He has been serving as a board member of the Ogden Homeless Veterans Fellowship since 2009. 

As s a member of the VFW Post 1481 Honor Guard, he is proud to state that he has participated in military honors for over 600 veterans.
