VFW Letter Campaign to Preserve Rating Decision Review

- 4/16/2020

Good morning, Dept of Utah VFW Leaders & Members:

Earlier this month, VA announced that it plans to end the decades-old policy of allowing Veterans Service Officers to review proposed rating decisions for the veterans we represent. This abrupt change takes effect Friday, April 24 and we have been told by VA that "there will be no discussion” on the matter.

Needless to say, this does not sit well with the VFW. Recently, our Commander-in-Chief Doc Schmitz published a press release on the topic, and earlier this week, Ryan Galluccie shared some of his thoughts on the issue via Facebook. The VFW also spearheaded a letter to the White House yesterday cosigned by the nation’s leading VSOs, requesting President Trump’s intervention in the matter.

Also please share our Department’s letter on any of your social media platforms, and be sure to tag the Department of Veterans Affairs (Facebook: @VeteransAffairs Twitter: @DeptVetAffairs @SecWilkie) and Veterans Benefits Administration (Facebook: @VeteransBenefits Twitter: @VAVetBenefits).

I know this is a very uncertain time for our veterans, which is why now more than ever it is refreshing to see how the VFW has continued to live up to our motto that "No One Does More for Veterans.”

I hope you will be able to assist us with this very important campaign, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you for continued dedication to our nation’s heroes.

Yours in Comradeship,
