Michelle Russo
Jr Vice President - Army

2024-2025 Department Junior Vice President

Michelle M. Russo
I am the Department Auxiliary Junior Vice President as well as my post Auxiliary President.
I am eligible under my Grandfather Raymond La Grange (Navy) and Grandfather Alphonso Russo (Army)
I have been a VFW Auxiliary Officially, 2 years. I am a Lifetime member. My Auxiliary home is with Ben G Russo Post #3586.

The VFW to me is about value of service, . My family arrived as Italian immigrants thru Ellis Island and all 6 brothers served in the Army. I was raised to respect our military. My parents instilled the discipline of volunteering with my church, your church, the neighbor’s church, my school, sports, the VFW, Italian American Civic League and any reputable organization, who needed help.

I am passionate about my post. Some people will say it is because of my uncle Ben. They are partially correct. The other factor is I care about the Veteran community. I love my VFW family and friends. Many in our Auxiliary did not serve. Auxiliary is our way of giving back to our veterans, veterans families and their communities. I grew up helping my uncle Ben with functions at Post #3586, since I was 5 years old.

I have friends both new and old, that I have made through this amazing organization. I have obtained sponsorships for the flags for Memorial Day, Steak Fry, Adopt A Unit and many other Veteran related events. I have worked hard to obtain volunteers for Memorial Day since 2013. Ask my family and friends, they have been overly voluntold for numerous VFW and veteran events.

Our post has achieved great success with our volunteer Memorial Day event and now do 2 cemeteries every year. This year, our Post and Auxiliary worked simultaneously at 3 different cemeteries.

I am not new to the VFW. I come with a wealth of knowledge and history of volunteering with this organization. I also could not be successful without having several committed mentors and volunteers by my side.  I am involved in several community programs and nonprofits. I have always believed in the VFW. I know it is the best military organization in the world, serving our Veterans and families. I am always up for a challenge.

I am honored to serve as a line officer and I will do my best not only to help my post thrive, but I am committed to helping other Auxiliaries. I have been active in attending other posts events and love to partner with other Auxiliaries. I love the many programs, that my post supports. The scout programs at our post and volunteering with these youth, their families and leaders, has inspired me in so many different ways. I recognize, that I am a small part of the VFW Auxiliary. However, I do know what a difference the VFW Auxiliary makes and am humbled to belong to Post 3586's Auxiliary.

The one thing, I would like to leave you knowing is I will work tirelessly to help make a difference in the lives of our veterans. The Post & Auxiliary 3586 runs active Facebook accounts. I encourage all of you to see how engaged our Auxiliary team is in our community. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me.
